This year, as travel plans and open indoor spaces are few and far between, parents are scrambling for ideas and activities to do over winter break. Enter kids’ podcasts! Podcasts can entertain kids for hours, as they listen to episodes and do related activities after listening.
As a start, check out the podcasts suggestions and related activities for the whole family below that will keep your kids busy as they learn, laugh, and have fun throughout winter break and beyond!
- Hear a hilarious joke every day of winter break with the daily joke podcast, HILL-LaRRy-uS! Set a daily time like at breakfast, dinner, when you’re in the car or before bedtime to listen to a joke as a family. Then, keep the laughs coming with a family stand-up comedy night. Each family member can tell a joke, a funny story or act out something silly - anything to get some giggles going!
- Create an awesome art project over 5 days with Anytime Art, the podcast art class that uses basic supplies, which you likely already have at home. Activate your inner artists together with a family art activity. Decide on and complete a project from the podcast – paper sculptures, abstract painting, food art, amongst others – or choose a project of your own: create and draw your own still lifes using objects around the house, draw or paint portraits of each other, or collaborate to make a joint family mural or collage. Don’t forget to hang up and display your masterpieces!
- Kick off game night with the trivia podcast ExtraBLURTor ExtraBLURT Jr. (for younger kids). After completing the challenges in an episode, continue the fun with a game marathon. Have each family member choose their favorite game and play each one after another. Celebrate winners with silly awards like “most enthusiastic,” and “best dice roller.”
- Carve out daily “chill time” with Peace Out. These kid-friendly meditations are perfect for helping your kiddos practice quiet and focused time every day. Build in mindful moments to your daily schedule before bedtime or anytime your kids need a break. As a family activity, create “glitter jars” together. These “calm-down” jars, as they are also called, will further help your kids relax as they watch the glitter swirl and eventually settle.
Of course, there are tons of other podcasts and audiobooks to choose from so spend some time exploring.
